Help alfa 155 v6 water pump/cam belt

Hi there. I've got a 1994 155 v6 in metallic blue and have a very noisy water pump! At first thought it was very tappetty but then realised it was the pump which has now been confirmed as my fan belt has snapped today! Sounds great now! I've bought a new pump and a cam belt and tensioner but need some advice on whether its an 'engine out' job and how long its likely to take.I'm also going to get a fan belt now but is there anything else i should do at the same time? Also i'm struggling to get hold of wing mirrors and the check system will not fix in place as the lugs for fixing are broken. What an awesome car though!

Re: alfa 155 v6 water pump/cam belt

What did the noise sound like??, mine makes a mild groinching noise now and then, (if thaT IS A REAL DESCRIPTION)sorry i pressed caps lock and am far too lazy to go back.

because I am worried my pump may be slightly siezed too, the noise tends to come and go as it idles.

As for engine out, well I reckon so. I have a v6 on a stand in the garage and the water pump is under a hell of a lot of wheels and belts.

Dom - yours could be one of the tensioners or idlers....get it checked out asap

Andy - welcome to the forum...another 155'ers I wasn't brave enough to tackle the belts when mine were done, but the book time is about 4 hours for a 12v, add another hour for the water pump (had mine done too).

It's going to be touch and go whether it will be quicker to do it with the engine in place.

I reckon you can do a better job when you have the lump out.

Re: alfa 155 v6 water pump/cam belt

Great that thanks.Your labour appears to be 196+vat which is what i thought. Been expecting about 200 as i've already got the parts. I now know how it will sound as with my fan belt being snapped the pump isn't running and has stopped the racket! Would then stand me at 600 which i think is peanuts for this awesome motor. Whats yours like Dibbley? Any pics?

Re: alfa 155 v6 water pump/cam belt

it needed a clutch when i got it but have also done the crank sensor, wishbones, front discs and pads and track rod ends. The mot's due at the end of the month and i know it needs a front shocker but have been in touch with lancsbreakers and i can get a full strut for 15 so that'll do for now. You should try lancsbreakers for the mirrors you're after he has 2 V6's in at the moment, not too far from you either, Accrington.. tel 01254 872204 or mobile 07976 384980 ask for Richard, they are very helpful
