V6 Cam Belt Change

Hey guys, I am sure this has been covered before, but I have been unable to find it in the old tech room threads...

I am changing the timing belt on my 1994 V6 (55k), as it is still the original item- I'm decidedly nervous about driving the beast with such an old belt! I require some advice with regard to the following:

1. Items that should be replaced at the same time while it's apart
2. Any tricks or traps that I should know about
3. The size of the crankshaft pulley nut (40mm?)
4. How to set up the tensioner

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm getting sick of driving my wife's gutless 1500cc auto!! I feel the need for speed.

Jase

Its not a hard job to do just a bit fiddly getting some of the bolts out First time i did mine it took about an hour ish

You will need the car jacked up and the o/s/f wheel off

Best to replace the tensioner while your at it and theres an idler pulley as well but i didnt change that and mines up to 156,000+ now and its still all right

The bottom pulley nut is about a 36mm i think might be 38 or 40 can`t remember and it`s pretty tight i used a windy gun to get it off...............The best way to do it is to time the crankshaft up and then just mark the cam pulleys against the heads with tipex this save removing the rocker covers to get to the correct timing marks

The tensioner has a pointer which alligns with a mark when its set in the correct position but the bolts are tricky to get at a drop spanner is very handy 13mm heads on the bolts

Have fun and if you get stuck let me know

Speedy is the 155 V6 alot different to the 75 V6 as I changed my cam belt on that 3 times and never needed to remove the front pulley. and do they still use the oil fed tensioner as I bought a seal kit instead of replacing the complete tensioner

Re: V6 Cam Belt Change

Daiblack the tensioner is `nt oil fed its just a pointer on a stick basically and the bottom pulley has to come off to get acces to the cover bolts and the tensioner bolts

Its all a bit close to the inner wing

Better than the 75's oil fed one then, every cam belt change I had to do the seals aswell and of corse theres more space on a 75 to do the belts

Thanks SF, much appreciated. You are right, access is a bit tight, but it is not as bad as the Mitzi Mirage Turbo that I one had
