8v aux belt change

I'm needing to change the belt which drives the water and power streering pumps on my 8v. There is very little room to get my hand in.
Is there any special moves I should do to change the belt ????
There doesn't seem to be any way of moving the pumps to give slack without actually taking them off...or am I blind ????

Re: 8v aux belt change

Would need to go look on the 8v outside but is there a tensioner? This should move to allow slack...it does on the 16v anyway

Re: 8v aux belt change

I'll have to have another look, but I didn't see any tensioner when I looked yesterday. I was hoping for some sort of arrangment like on alternators where they slide on curved doodahs. I've got the belt sitting waiting. The one on the car is very err.......cracked !!!!!!

Marlon, it looks as if there are 2 belts the alternator tensions the one belt and the power steering pump tensions the other.

Re: 8v aux belt change

Had a look at lunchtime there and Speedy you are right !!! The power steering pump can slide like the alternator. The nut was hidden by all the pipes. Still doesn't look as though it'll be a 5 minute job though

Re: 8v aux belt change

Couldn't change the belt
Can't get access to the bolts on the power steering pump to allow adjustment. Tried from above and below. Looks like you should drop the engine !!!!!!

Re: 8v aux belt change

Just had a thought. Wonder if I'd get access if I removed the wheel and wheel arch liner ???
I'm not going out to look just now 'cos it snowed overnight and my car is under 8 inches of frozen water.

Re: 8v aux belt change

I had a quick look today Marlon and it looks as though the trim might have to come off

It also looks a lot easier to do with car up in the air
