156 2.0l jts cranking strong but not starting

Hi my friends and fellow Alfa owners. I need your help to solve a problem that i have been trying to deal with alone!

My Alfa 156 jts is not starting but has a strong crank, here is what i have done so far-
-Drained tank and added new fuel
-changed crank position sensor
-new battery
-checked both looms and all connections are good
-i am getting spark and fuel to the fuel rail
-the fuel cut off switch is not on!
-only getting one code on the reader p0443
- immobilizer key light is going off

If anyone has any idea or even a guess i would be over the moon!
Thanks

Fraser.

High pressure fuel pump?

What is P0443?

Googling alfa jts p0443 came up with quite a few results including: P0443 - Evaporation control valve.

It would appear that this is most unlikely to be the problem. OBD-II Trouble Code: P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit

As sprint-veloce said the high pressure fuel pump could be the problem, I have read of people having trouble with it.

Look at https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=al...sure+fuel+pump

What fuel pressure are you seeing?

I dont have anythig to tell me the pressure. Would low pressure stop fule from getting to the cylinders?

Isn't fuel pressure monitored in diags?
Direct injection engines (like the JTS) run extremely high fuel pressures because the injectors have to battle against cylinder pressures.

How did you get the error code?

I have a small code reader, doesn't tell me much.
Just took a pug out and covered the hole with tissue, turned it over and i cant smell any fuel on the tissue.

I had the same fault with my JTS which turned out to be the electric pump in the fuel tank. It was pumping some fuel but not sufficient to fire the engine. If you can connect a long piece of pipe to the high pressure pump with a funnel full of petrol at the other end, hold the funnel as high as you can above your head and turn the car over. If it starts then that confirms the electric pump.

As mentioned above, you should check the hp pump pressure against spec.
