Correct adjustment of the V6 24V timing belt tensioner

Hello
I am hoping someone can advise on the method to re-adjust the new timing belt tensioner on my 156 V6 24V, 1999 model. I have installed the new belt and adjusted the tensioner to the mark with the pulleys free on the taper seats of the cams. I have then removed the cam locks and turned the engine over 5 or 6 full revolutions. On rechecking TDC I then checked the tensioner and it appears to have slackened off slightly. The alignment mark is 1-2mm above the required notch. As I read it the cams must be locked, the pulleys freed from the cams and the tensioner adjusted again.
I am hoping that might not be necessary! Or should I simply make an adjusment of the tensioner, turn the engine over as before and retest ?

Thanks for and help.

Having slept on it I decided to do the complete reset. The tensioner now has the correct alignment.

You must do the complete reset otherwise you'll at best have a constant ticking noise, at worst the belt will skip on the rear pulley.

Ok thanks, I was pretty sure that if I understood the principle of the free movement of the pulleys on locked cams that I had to free them before any adjustment of the belt tension.
