Cleaning liner tops

Im curently changing the head gaskets on my V6, I've got the heads of and am looking to clean up the block and cylinder liners. My problem is im terrified to touch them too much as I dont want to disturb the water seal at the bottom of the liner.

Anyone got any good techniques? The liners are held down using improvised tools but im still scared!

Cheers James

honing tools would be best, you can't touch the liners much lighter than that and still effectively clean them

My tip.. get the coolant out of there. Stick a number of cloths between the liners till they soak it all up.

he's scared to destroy the liner seals by moving them. I'm sure the block is empty.

It was mainly the top surface where the new gasket will sit that I am trying to clean.
