Help GT, 156 or 159???

Hi all!
We're back!!
We once upon a time owner a beautiful 156 2.5 V6..... and regretfully sold it.

It was too painful coming back on here and reading all your jolly, happy (and sometimes upsetting) news from all your big Alfa adventures!

Well, I can't take it anymore. We've had a Nissan, a citroen, a VW, a Peugeot, a Ford, a Merc and... a Skoda....(hey its a VW engine, okay!!? lol)

But we're getting a new Alfa again!
Well, actually, hubby can keep the Ford for now, i'm getting my own Alfa!

Not really sure what to get though...so much choice! *spoilt*

But more sensibly, I commute 80 miles a day so I can't really (shouldn't really) get another V6... *wishes*

Soooo, I've been checking out GT's, 159s and some late 156s (facelift editions)
I'm looking for a 1.9 JTD.

What's all your preferences and why? What should I get??

And more importantly, are any of the 3 more reliable then another (albeit being the same engine?) What's your knowledge and experiences?

Or do you have any good reasons to why I should warrant and justify getting another v6??! ...not too sure the 80 mile round trip will be too kind...! Lol

Thanks all. It's so good to be back.
B

Alfa 156 2.5 V6

1.9JTD engine is very nice for a diesel but no V6 to drive.

Still loads of fun though.

You couldn't go wrong with something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-ALFA-...item3cd03fb815

Last of the 2.4 10v engines, immensely reliable, great on fuel, easy to work on & fix and also sounds great for a diesel. I've had 4 now, as well as 2 x 1.9 16v diesels and the 2.4 definitely is the pick of the bunch.

Hey thanks for the Ebay link! Didn't realise the MPG return on the 2.4 is just as good as the 1.9 so that's interesting! Thanks for that

That's the very one I would go for if I was doing 80 mile per day... Strongest JTD engine they made, great sound for a diesel, loads of torque... Kinder on clutches, drive shafts than the rest of the diesel range as long as you buy an unmolested version...
A 159 is a lovely looking car. But... By the time you factor in the extra weight of a 159 2.4 JTDm 20V in comparison to a 156, there isn't really much difference between them in performance and economy.
Good spot Pud
