Blown Turbo

159 1750 Ti; 30000km (18000mi). I've bought this car brand new in November 2011 and it has after a year and 3 months suffered a blown turbo. Anyone else have a similar problem on the TBi engine?

I don't abuse the turbo: After freeway driving (I live 2 mins drive from the freeway) i always drive home slowly, avoiding boost and letting the car idle for another 2 minute before switching it off. In fact every time I stop the car I let it idle before switching it off. I'm stumped now...

Turns out the inlet turbine nut came loose allowing play on the shaft and that pretty much rogered it...

BTW that has got to be the smallest turbo impeller on the exhaust side that I have ever seen...

It's under warranty. The problem with a bigger turbo will be the mountains of turbo lag. That engine is deader than a 1100 Uno without a turbo. The best mod would be to fit a GQV turbo and map. It should make a few more ponies as the compression is slightly higher than the QV's. QV has different injectors though, so you may be limited by injector size in the power stakes.
