Coolant temperature gauge not working? [2.4 JTD 20v M-Jet]

The coolant temperature gauge on my 2.4 20v JTD 156 isn't working, seemingly at all. Gauge lights up but needle doesn't work. Car runs and drives find although I do think it's been marginally thirsty. Heat coming from fans ok.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Sender? Thermostat? or the gauge itself?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Post really needs to be in the 156 section....
but anyway, first thing to check is that the plug is still connected to the temperature sensor on the thermostat.

Thanks David. I'll have a poke around at the weekend. I just wondered if there was a common fault with these. I'll work back from the sender over the weekend.

Just for clarification - why is this in the wrong section? It's a query about a JTD engine component? I'm not suggesting for a minute you're mistaken, I just want to make sure I understand what this section is for.

Thanks again. Will update this once I've fixed it or run out of swear words, depending on what happens when I investigate it further.
