Changing engine from JTS to TS on the 156

Bought an Alfa Romeo 2.0 JTS y.m. 2004 a while ago, nice car, but now the engine needs to either be repaired or replaced due to a huge oil consumption. Thought of a replacement engine and Iím now wondering if the older Twin Spark engines can be used as replacement engines in stead of the 2.0 JTS engine in the newer face lift model of 156?? Do i have to change the electronics as well? And how about the fit with the gear box, screw holes etc? Thanks!

I'd repair the jts, i'd remove the head replace the gaskets and stem seals replace the rings and glaze bust the bores. cost would be about the same and less hassle than changing the engine for a TS.

Physically a 2.0 TS should slot straight in, the block on both the engines is the same.

However the electronics are different, the fuel system is different (Direct injection) and I would guess other details are also different.

I am sure the swap could be done but it would be a real ball ache. You would most likely be better off fixing the engine you have as Biffa says. Or sell it and buy an older TS.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice guys! Would be nice if it'd just be to plug-and-play but guess i have to do it the traditional way. If anyone has experience of replacing a JTS with a TS engine, please leave your thoughts and comments.

I can't help you with the specialist near Leicester, but you would probably be better off posting a question in the general Alfa discussion lounge where more people will see it.

Do a search from the base 'Alfa Romeo Forum' for posts about 'Leicester' will give you some recommendations, Intaservices seem to be popular.

Yep, give Intaservices in Leicester a call, speak to a man called Dave. Or drop in and see him. He has a nice dog.
