Well its at the back of the engine. So I would imagine not to difficult but you may have to work from underneath the car.

How wrong can you be?!!

It's a well known pain in the backside job. You are supposed to go in through the wheel arch but there is a growing consensus that it is easier to go in the top, having removed the intake manifold.

Do a search in the 156 lounge or the Gtv lounge and all will be revealed

I just thought it doesn't look that hard to get to when I last did a cambelt change on the 147. No harder than getting at anything else in that position at the engine.

Then again I have small hands...

It's not the hands mate, it's getting the actual alternator out. It's a bit of a strip down job, about 3 hours all in all I reckon.

I just joined up on the 145 site and read a totally perfect step by step guide. It rocks like a rocking thing on national rocking day.
So I'm doing it alongside removing and repairing then replacing my gearbox.....

Egon, Just nipped out and dropped my engine and took a pic for you ...

link

You can just make out the alternator in the bottom left just above the drive shaft flange and left of the aux belt tensioner ...

OK ... it's not my engine ... wish it was that clean after 14 years though ...
