Water Pipe Gasket 2L CF2

Hi All,

I got a very slow coolant leak dripping onto the oil filter of the 2 litre CF2 engine in my 156. The leak started after I gave the cooling system a flush with citric acid, followed by multiple fresh water flushes. This process flushed a reasonable amount of scale and took away the light rust staining in the plastic reservior. I replaced the water pump after the flushing process.

I'm not too peturbed by the leak (almost expected it), and have isolated it to the the gasket that seals the alloy water pipe to the front of the Cylinder Head. Part No. 7 in the Eper diagram.

My question is to anyone who has replaced this gasket is, is the gasket anthing special, like a formed rubber seal? Or can I just cut one out of gasket paper and smear on some hi-temp silicone?

The original gasket is made of metal but I see no reason why you couldn't make one from reasonably thick gasket paper. Use a smear of blue hylomar when fitting to both sides of the gasket.

I would do the same but keep the original gasket as bob the builder would say "reduce, reuse, and recycle"...
