Why is it so black?

hey all,
After seeing a few Alfas on my hunt for one, I noticed that the oil on all of them just about looks like diesel oil.

Is that normal?

Thanks heaps
Sam

The service interval is 12000 miles, the oil will look pretty black after half that so yes it is quite normal.

It is best to change it a lot sooner than the 12000 mile interval too IMO

If it was me I wouldn't leave it in much longer than 6000 miles or so.

Being black isn't a gauge of an oil's degradation.

+1

Diesel oil goes black almost straight away and TS isn't much better in my experience. Check the levels and service book. look for receipts rather than a stamped book
