turbo all worn out

hi,friend of mines got a turbo diesal, had a new turbo fitted all running fine then decided to put a jet washer up the exhaust to clean it out,an old taxi trick, unfortunatly the turbo started playing up, basically the impeller fins are all worn out chewed up, personally i reckon the jet washer has shot a load of crap from the exhaust into the charger he,s then started the engine and shot all the crap threw the charger which has caused the wear ,what do u think sound possible cheers

if hes introduced water upstream of the turbo then it could well have caused damage to the vanes as water is not able to be compressed (like air) and those vanes are delicate. if hes introduced the water downstram of the turbo then i cant imagine how it would damage the turbo other than impeeding the flow of air.
A blown turbo would throw a lot of oil down the exhaust and will smoke a lot until it gets burnt off, safest way is to remove it and stand it on end and let gravity do the dirty work.

What do you mean by 'impeller' fins? The turbo has 2 sets of fins (blades, vanes whatever), exhaust side (turbine) and air inlet side (compressor). They're completely seperate from each other. The presence of crap will have a severe impact on these due to their very delicate nature & very high speeds of 100k+ rpm.

It sounds unlikely that damage would have been done to the turbo, unless he filled the exhaust with an awful lot of water? Id have thought by the time the water had flowed through the exhaust silencers, diesel cat etc. there would be no way it would be travelling quickly enough to spray crap around.. I could be wrong though, just seems unlikely to me.
