Cambelt advice please

I bought my 2.0 GTV Spider 2 years ago when it had done 65,000 miles. According to the service history the cambelt was replaced at 58,000 miles, approximately a year before I bought her. She is now on 69,000.

So, she has done 11,000 miles since the cambelt was replaced 3 years ago.

Should I be thinking of getting it done again because I have read advice on here that says it should be replaced every 36,000 or every 3 years!

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

In your case the mileage is irrelevant however its 3yrs or 36k whichever comes first, so yes its now due again

Agreed, yes replacement required at 3 years, despite a low mileage. Rubber toothed belts degrade with age in additon to usage. (I only do about 5,000 to 6,000 a year but replace the timing belt every three years.)

Thanks guys. I thought that would be the case.

Better safe than sorry I guess!

(Starts checking down the back of the settee for loose change/lost lottery tickets).

Alfaworkshop in Herts has a special offer for 2 litre cambelts at £250 this month.

I mention this as last time I was there I met a nice lady in the waiting room who had driven up from the West Country for a cam belt change because she said there was no equivalent down her way.

Hi Padders.

Thanks for that. I did consider going there but its over 300 miles each way from here plus i'm self employed so would lose a days earnings. I have just booked it into Graham Eddy's place down in Penzance as he comes highly reccomended. £350 all in.
