How much as spares?

Can anyone tell me how much my 156 would be worth as spares?

its a 99 2.4 JTD (136bhp), full leathers, sport-pack suspension, 16" teles.

I think i'm about to give up spending money on it now the ******* steering rack is fecked Which is a shame cos it's just got a years MOT now

I'm just wondering if it's worth more as spares than selling it "as-is"

Thats not exactly a major problem.. Gonna be about 4-5 hours at garage rates and a good 2nd hand rack, then sell it as a good running car?, or keep it (do the ARB bushes at the same time)

You'd be better off doing this than breaking it, diesels command a premium when sold, and they don't break very well because they are so much more reliable than Twinsparks and there's also far fewer of them on the road needing parts.

Is the steering rack a DIY'able job?

How much would i expect to pay for a second hand rack?

It's a bit of a pain in the proverbial, but a lot easier if you have a ramp. I've got a rack from a 1.6 TS, but I dunno if it's the same or not...

Diesels to command a premium though

4 with a jacking beam, 2 without.

I did a rack-replacement on my (gravel) drive last year. It wasn't fun, but was do-able.

So would i get away with jacking it up and using axle stands?

What's involved with the job? Sub-frame off job i take it?

Racks are specific to the 2.4, I've got a couple in stock so give me a ring or email if you need one.

Jack up, exhaust off, undo suspension, drop subframe, replace rack, powerflex anti-roll bar bushes, subframe back on, exhaust back on, top up fluid. Will take you all day on a driveway but its doable.
