I'm rebuilding a 3.0 24v from a 164 of 1993 vintage.
It's got a "y-shaped" tensioner, which I can't find any coverage of in any manuals - it seems to fall between the old 12v hydraulic type and the mechanical ones on the newer v6s. (see attached)
The main thing I want to know is, how do I know if it's ok to reuse? Anyone know how to test one, or even how it works?
It doesn't look like it can be easily disassembled, as it appears to be pressed together and peened over. New ones are $500(!) from Alfissimo, so I could do with reusing it if possible.
The pistony bit can be rotated, but I can't get it to move in or out, though I may just not be trying hard enough.
The other thing is that the pully sounds a bit shagged, and the bushing which the pully assembly rotates on is galled to hell, so I'll have to replace those as well.
Any and all advice appreciated
