Hmmm v6 cambelt change

Hi Everyone!
I'm psyching myself up to change the cambelt, tensioner, idlers & waterpump on my early '98 GTV v6. I've been doing some research on the matter (forewarned is forearmed ...) and expect the crankshaft pulley nut to be something of a struggle! Does anyone know if the pullet DEFINITELY has to come off? Can the belt be fitted by sliding it arround??
Thanks

Yep, it does I'm afraid. A big socket and an impact gun are your friends there!

IIRC it's a 'normal' right-hand thread on it (lefty-loosey).

Yes it needs to come off and yes it's a conventional right hand thread.

There's abstep by step guide to changing it on the 156.net forum

On the 12v there is enough room to feed the belt through. It's a pretty small gap.. but it does fit. 24v might be a different story, I suppose.. but it's worth having a look before you start.

It's not. you cannot replace the belt without taking the pulley off.
