Hmmm 2.0 TS URGENT Help Needed

Hi all

I have a GTV 2.0 TS and yesterday it started knocikng from the top end. Unfortunately Im not too clued up on Alfas yet and I also have no access to any diagnostics SW as I am away from home.

It idles normally but under load there is a loud knock, from it seems the top end. It almost sounds like something is being starved of oil and is 'tractor' like. I noticed it whilst driving but there were no other symptoms ie no EML, loss of power etc.

I have taken some video clips but cant post them as I am doing this from a public pay computer but should be able to on riday.

Does anyone have any ideas what it 'could' be with my limited information?

Any help is much appreciated.

Stan

PS I am near Lichfield at the moment so if anyone is anywhere near then.......well you know where that is going

Jaaaaag

Sounds awfully like the big ends, so I wouldn't be starting it again until you've found out what it is...

Take the dipstick out and look carefully at the oil in some bright light. If there are any tiny sparkly bits of metal it's bad news

Yeah I had a look around and thought it may be that - bugger!!!

I'll be getting the AA to tow me back and will go straight to ferdi's with it when I get back. Only had the car 3-4 weeks!!! Gutted.

Anyone know some £££ figures???

knocking under load is 99% main conrod bearing, easy repair if you do it yourself, costly for somone else

best way to check is remove one lead at a time, and press trottle whist hand brake is on to load up engine and see which ones knock

Right guys, I've spoken to Ferdi in Lytham and after some dicsussion I'm gonna change the engine with a replacement one. So, anyone know of anyone who has one? I'm watching a few on ebay at the moment.

Also, is there a guide on here for replacing them? I am about to do some searching!!

Is yours an alloy top or a plastic top engine?.....I've got both - an ally top one out of a 155 and a plastic top one out of a 156 - both will fit, but easier to get the one nearest to your spec...Ferdi knows me as he's one of my Section members in AROC
