My local independant Alfa specialist in Lancashire charged £280 all in for replacing my belt & pulleys on my 156 1.8TS.
The variator costs about another £80 he told me (but he could tell that mine was OK and didn't need changing). The 2.0 has an extra pully because of the balancer shaft, so there's a bit more cost there.
I'd guess therefore that £400 - £450 would be a reasonable charge for a specialist non-dealer garage for a 2.0 with variator.
Their number is 01494 538899 ..... tell them Gary recommended you. They've worked on my 156 a few times now ... including timing belt etc. But as it was included in some other work, not sure now what that cost on its own.
I looked at quote that I've had from L&M previously for some other work, it seems they charge £45 p/h + VAT and AlfaAid charge £48 p/h + VAT - so perhaps AlfaAid think it will take them longer to fit the parts?! We shall see, will give L&M a buzz.
They quote 239 pounds for cambelt + tensioner including labour and VAT
I'm not reconmending them though as i've not used them or heard of anyone else thats used them. But their webpage suggests they are specialists and seem pretty knowledgeable in the few emails i've had with them.
I'd be interested in how you get on with L&M if you use them - they aren't too far from me either.
Good call! Just phoned DTR and they confirm £239 for cambelt & tensioner inc labour and VAT. Variator is roughly £100 on top of that, prob a bit less I suspect. Don't think I will call L&M as I know they won't be able to beat that (based on previous quotes I have had).
Thank you everyone - will let you know how it goes with DTR (2 week wait mind).
