2.0TS Strange vibration and noise

Hi All

Driving home last night I started to get a strange vibration through the steering wheel and pedals. My commute is mostly motorway so mostly constant speed driving yet the vibrations come and go, similar to moving from really smooth tarmac to rough road. The vibartion is also accompanied by additional noise in the cabin abit like the additional booming you sometimes get when a window is open.
Its definately engine related as a dip of the clutch makes it virtually disappear.
From the outside the engine now sounds like a diesel.

I'll get a chance to have a look at it tomorrow - any ideas where to start??
Balancer belt/tensionser, big end, cambelt......??????

Thanks for any suggestions/solutions

Jonathan

Turns out the balancer belt had strip lots of its teeth!
I've cut it off and will replace it when I do the cambelt.
