Age old engine question

I'm sorry, I know it's been asked a million times but..............

is the CF2 short engine the same as the CF1. i know the heads are slightly different but can be used but what of the block? As you know I have a suspected big end failure and have been offered a second hand CF2 short engine with less than 90k on it from a head gasket failure engine.Just want to know if the CF2 would mean extra work. Many thanks.

They're interchangeable afaik. From what I remember (which isn't much) the CF2 might have had a slighly lighter crankshaft, but makes no odds to putting it into a Ph1.

Anything that's different (eg the crank sensor etc) can be taken off the old block.

If it the whole engine your swapping just swap everything attached to your old engine to your replacement unit...
I'd swap the timing belt kit and water (if it new) too, just replace the belts out of good practice...

I am planning to put my CF1 head on a CF2 block. I will as you suggest Biffa, re-use everything bar the belt and of course a new head gasket. Which begs another question, CF1 head onto CF2 block, what head gasket to use???

My options so far are £200 plus delivery for second hand CF2 bottom end, just under 90k taken from a head gasket failure car. £495 plus delivery for a fully reconditioned CF1 short engine, £350 inc delivery for a CF1 complete engine, 100,000K. I have also the option to buy a crank and shells but haven't talked money yet. Decisions decisions...........

Anyway, advice on head gasket appreciated.

Use cf2 head gasket, although from memory I can't think what the difference between a cf1 and cf2 headgasket is, maybe they are the same? Cf3 is definitely different.

CF1 & CF2 HG are the same.
p/n 60608895 for both for a 2.0 16v TS.
