Strange lose of power

Hy there. In my 159 2.4 20 hp i have a great lose of power . The EGR is new, and I have done 2 experiments to see where the problem comes from. First one I have been puting a blank egr plate between the exhaust inlet and the EGR to see the results and the results are that I have medium power between 1.500 - 2.500 rpm, but when it cross the 2.000 rpm line it hesitates. And the second was with the EGR without the blanking plate and I get worst performance. Untill 2.000 rpm it looks like a car without turbo. So where I can start looking? Maybe the VGT?

Its not so much about the code but the turbo vanes getting stuck.

You have checked with diagnostic like Fiatecuscan (FES) ?

Yes and there is no error. I am thinking in removing this week the turbo and see the turbo vanes, but itīs a hard job, and Iīm not really a mechanic...but I will give a try.

No need to remove the complete turbo, disconnect the actuator from the vnt arm theres a small circlip on the end of the arm remove this and see if the vnt arm moves freely more than 10mm is required but don't force it and don't try to move the vnt arm when the engines running.

YouTube - TDI variable vane VNT turbo vane movement check and description of how it works

I have seen "mechanics" try to move the actuator arm with the engine running and damage the turbo the vnt vanes hit the turbine fins and take the tips of them off.

Although if you have no errors then it's probably not the vanes getting stuck.

Have you had the car long? If it's the earlier model with 200 bhp (which the guy I bought my 156 off has) the DPF seems to strangle it quite badly below 2000 rpm. He wasn't impressed when he changed to the 159 (brand new one at the time) as the 156 pulls from almost nowt!

Remap improves it no end.......

btw don't know if you've ever seen a DPF brick (I used to work for a major exhaust manufacturer) but if you have it's easy to see why they kill performance so badly. Just a money spinning exercise as far as I can work out....

PS why isn't the ECU throwing a fault with the EGR blanked off? It should do.

edit: Have you checked the small bore pipe to the VNT actuator solenoid for splits / cracking?

Itīs the 2006 model, but the dpf works well...regeneracions every 700-800 km, no problems at all. With the EGR blanked it gives me error, but it works better with the plate that without. I will try to see if I can check the VGT but in this alfas itīs really dificult.
