Help 156 JTD Sport turbo problem?

Hello everyone, new to the forum! Just got an Alfa 156 JTD Sport 150 a couple of months ago. All has been fine until the last week or so.

The problem is when I put my foot down in any gear, the car does nothing for ages, then suddenly the turbo kicks in and away it goes. I noticed in the last couple of weeks that it has had a few blips when driving. If it was petrol I would say it feels like a misfire... but I don't know much about diesels at all. If you rev the car a little bit then lift the clutch the turbo spools up fine but if you just put your foot down it seems to take an epic amount of time.

I had a little search and I found a post that may suggest boost leak?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

either boost leak or check the EGR, my EGR was blocked up, and made the car sluggish under 2k rpms.. worth a look.

Thanks, i'll try that, but it's not just sluggish, it actually doesnt move unless you spool the turbo by revving it or it reaches higher RPM.

Just cleaned out the EGR, only took half an hour and it was clogged up quite a bit, but my problem still remains only with more power at higher end when the turbo does eventually kick in? Strange?

So does this mean I am left with boost leak? Are there any other possibilities?

I have a simmilar problem on my 159. I think it could be the VGT of the turbo. But I need an expert to confirm that.

Hm, well i'm at a loss until i take it to the garage because I know squat about diesels. This is my first diesel and I changed from a BMW 328i to get it... I knew that inside out haha.

maybe check your vacuum line from the vnt actuator on the turbo back to the overboost valve(and the actual valve) and from there back to vac pump any vacuum leaks will give poor turbo control.
