Wave Under temperature - advice needed

Symtoms: Temperature gauge hovers around 60 degrees, the radiator fan stays on all the time, even on cold start-up, and the engine light is on. The car had been running fine, but, will driving on a motorway the engine light came on and I noticed the temp had dropped and then as I slowed on an off ramp, I heard the fan.

Whats up?

Firstly I think you need to change the thermostat. Then you might need to change the fan sender.

Totally guessing, but I would change the temp sender first on the basis it may be giving false readings to the ECU putting the light on and screwing the temp guage reading.
