Hmmm oil in intercooler pipes ?!

i took my intercooler off today because it has a big hole in and needs replacing,
the pipe that goes to the bottom of the intercooler had a bit of oil in it and also the pipe that goes from the intake to the top of the intercooler had some oil in it, the intake where the butterfly is had a bit aswell.

is this normal ? it wasnt loads of oil, was it because of the hole ?

also when i took the car for a quick blast it was really slugish, didnt feel any hit from the turbo, is this because of the [email protected]#ked intercooler ? never drove a diesel so might just be that its slow ? lol

cheers, rob.

Some oil in the intake hoses is quite normal on turbos. It shouldn't be too much though.

A leaking intercooler will increase turbo lag and make the turbo spin faster than it should do.

This is because the turbo is still trying to reach its correct boost level even though some air is leaking out.

Hello,

When turbo's getting some older they will leak a bit nothing to worry about, but as said if its to much its a warning sign or too late. But when its too late youll notice

Yeah, when the turbo seals really fail you will end up with clouds of smoke. Normally when the car has been ticking over for a while.

On some cars you can get oil into the intake from the breathers if you overfill the oil, but a small amount is quite normal.
