Not Happy HELP - Car Poorly!!

Hey guys!

The 156 2.4 JTD has no power - will not rev over 3000rpm and just flat, will not pull in any gear higher than 2nd... it is not making any funny noises or anything, no smoke?... no warning lights?

It did it on the way home last night for about 100 yards and I just thought some crap may have been in the fuel as it cleared and went like normal afterwards.

I can hardly hear the turbo, which is usually very loud?

Could it be the MAF?... or something like a boost pipe?.. when I have had other TD's this has happened and the turbo make MORE noise accompnied with a rushing air sound?

Any ideas please?

try disconnecting the maf and go for a spin... the managment light will come on but once you reconnect the MAF it and started the engine 5 or 6 times the light will clear...

Thanks biffa... it is going to be in the morning now as throwing it down here and my Dad has Alfadiag and is fetching it over in the morning...

I have suspected that the MAF has been on its way out for a while now... will try this and hopefully this may cure it!?

Is there anything else obvious it could be?

I have already blanked the EGR off - a bit of digging has thrown up possible vac leaks on the VCT actuator?... will have a play in the morning and report back - not much I can do until I take it a run with no MAF connected - fingers VERY tightly crossed that it is the MAF!

Cheers for you help and will report back when I find the problem!

The intercooler pipes from the turbo split and squash over timr might be worth a check.

As Biffa said. Turbo hose splits cos its too close to a bolt and rubs. You can get a rerouted one in silicone from one of the Alfa specialists.

Thumbs Up

PHEW!!! Started the car yesterday and still the same (wanted to check before doing anything!) disconnected the MAF and bingo, running better than it was before it died! Have suspected it was ready for a while as I had the odd flat spot and hesitation!

Will be getting a BOSCH one from what I have read...

Thanks for all you help guys!..

If money's tight I have good used genuine Bosch MAFs on the shelf that will get you out of trouble. But obviously a new one is best if you can afford it.

i suggest try also disconnecting the MAP sensor which is located on the intake manifold and see if you notice any difference. Again you will get a check engine warning (thought i just let you know). When i disconnected mine, the turbo hardly came on because the ECU simply wasn't getting any indication of the air pressure inside the manifold. MAF sensor disconnect didn't make such big a difference as MAP sensor disconnect. Also suggest you try to monitor your fuel consumption to see if it is at normal levels. Hope this helps. let us know of the outcome
Cheers

Cheers for that - I will get the new one ordered though... Funds are always tight but I think it will cost less in the long run!
