Changed my TS belts. Question on tension.
I've just changed the belts and variator on my TS.
At the end, the tensioner was pointing to the indicator, everything torqued up correctly and pressing on either side of the crank pulley indicated that the tension was even. Turned the engine over by hand a few times and everything still ok.
Fired it up briefly and noted the tensioner doing it's job with the pointer moving slightly but still averaging out around the indicator.
But, on shutting down, the tensioner points above the indicator and the belt has more tension on the inlet cam side than the exhaust cam side at the crank pulley.
On starting it again, the pointer is good ( averaging around the indicator ).
I've just checked it again after having been away for a few days leaving the car idle, and the tensioner is correct, pointing straight at the reference hole. On starting and stopping, the tensioner is again indicating higher tension on the inlet side.
I'm guessing that this is normal and a result of the state of the engine on shutdown with one cylinder compressing but not enough to pull the cams back the wrong way. After a while the compression leaks away and the tensioner comes back to normal.
Am I correct and this is absolutely normal behavior?
