Help Running in

Not sure if this is in the right place as I have a 1750 TBi which isn't twin spark, JTD etc etc.

Very torquey but not very revvy , so easy to build the revs quickly and potentially work a new engine too hard.

This is my first new car - what should I do to run it in properly and for how long - is it best to keep the revs low (how low) or to use the range; from reading the forum, it seems the engine management system will place some limits on what I do for the first few k anyway - should I rely on this or do I have to use self-discipline?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No real hard and fast rules.

I kept mine under 4K revs for the 1st 1000km

and I never drive it spiritedly until after it's been indicating normal
operating water temperature for at least ten minutes. (Shame the oil temp gauge
isn't on the TBi. )

Then I rev the borrocks off it.

i'm with revving the engine.... the piston rings need to bed in properly, perhaps contributing to reduced oil consumption down the line...

when the engine is warm of course...
