v6 engine question

Can any tell me if the 24v 3.0 v6 engine in the 164 is the same as the one in the GTV.

It really depends on the year you are looking at? Basically yes it is but only on the earlier pre-facelift models. Why do you ask?

There are quite a lot of differences, its not very easy to make a GTV/166 3.0 24v engine fit in a 164 or vice versa.

A 164 engine has the thermostat on the wrong belt side of the engine and an unreliable tensioner setup.

I've got a 3.0 GTV engine for sale BTW.

And the cambelt tensioners are now out of production - every Alfa dealer I have tried is out of stock, had to turn a 164 24v away for a cambelt change because we couldn't get all the parts..

What are the implications of that Dan - I assume the ultimate demise of these engines?

Unless someone else starts production of them, yes. Or some bright spark finds a tensioner similar enough from another engine and manages to make it work..
