Oil cooler / Heat exchager

Hi Guys.

I'm finally putting my 2.0 ts back together.

I've run into a bit of a snag. The oil cooler is full of the little bits of crank shaft and big end that was floating in the oil. A new one is a big chunk +- R1,500 and there just isn't room for it in the budget. So I can go hunt down a used one for who know how much or do I try to clean it. My local indi suggested that I wash it in a bucket of paraffin.

Not worth the risk cleaning as there is bound to be stuff in it. I'd try and source a new or second hand one. However you can run the car without it. Its not ideal but it will do until you have funds. I did the same on my old 155 for a couple of months with no ill effects as I was advised on here it was ok but not ideal. Put rubber hose on the two metal pipes that connect to it to by pass the exchanger and take the extenion piece off the block where the exchanger connects and slides on. the oil filter should then screw on the the thread left sticking out where extension once was. Keep you going for a bit anyway.
