Help head gasket thickness

Hi guys, My latest 02 ,156 2litre twinspark has a mix and match engine fitted. The car was purchased like this with overheating problems resulting in a blown head gasket. The problem i have is that whilst the year of the car and the engine type suggest it should have the thin metal multi layered head gasket, it is no good. When fitted the valves just touch the pistons. I have an old head gasket off a 2.0 litre twinspark which is more of a "fibre" type twice the thickness but where do i get one from!! Ive tried my local motor factors and an Alfa head gasket supplier off ebay both suggesting they cant get them..

I'm sure they are available.

You want one for 32301 engine type.

What was different on the CF3 cars that made it possible to use a thinner headgasket David?

I thought that the TS engines were the same with only ancillary parts and sensors that were different.

No, there are internal differences with the CF3 engines.
Pistons are different for a start.
Use a CF3 gasket on a CF2 engine and the valves will hit the pistons.

Thanks David.

I heard a rumour that the head gasket was changed as the material in the CF2 gasket could damage the pre-cats, but I am not sure how true that was.

My 32310 cf3 spider has an earlier gasket fitted to lower the cr for the turbo
Someone fitted the cf3 gasket in error once and melted two pistons !
No issues with the earlier gasket fitted - 110,000 miles now - v reliable
Would be better with turbo pistons though but thats 700 compared to about 60

Hi, I went via Express factors also Euro car parts and ebay with no joy.My local engineering workshop have sourced the correct gasket at 27 also oversize gasket at 29.The availability of an oversize gasket is in my opinion worth knowing. The engine i have which is seperate parts from two 2002 engine components i.e head and block. The valves are not far off the surface of the head and on tdc the pistons protrude above the block.
