Poorly 156 - Please help!!

My beloved 156 is poorly!!!

Every morning I start it up with fingers crossed, hoping everything will have sorted itself out but it never does. When cold I can't touch the throttle for a good few seconds without getting an almighty cough, pop & splutter and when I set off in first gear it pops and kangaroos away until about 2500 rpm then when I change gear it happens all over again!!

I forgot to add, this only happens for the first 3/4 minutes of driving - after that its fine???

Last weekend I did the ECU reset, cleaned throttle body and MAF with carb cleaner (not touching maf at all) which seemed to improve things very slightly, but now its worse than ever when cold

I've been reading various posts on here that say get a new MAF etc etc, but have also seen posts about possble faulty HT leads, plugs, coil packs and wondered if anyone could advise before I spend lots of £££ on a brand spanking MAF to find the problem is still there

Thanks

check for air leaks - especially the rubber tadger between resonator/air box and throttle body...mine was doing the same the other week and that's what it was - quick lash up with duct tape solved it while i wait for a new tadger....

You should hook it up to Alfadiag or somesuch software to see if anything comes out of it.

also try disconnecting the MAF and see if it runs better - always a good plan to start with easy/cheap stuff before moving on to the trickier bits

I tried disconnecting it and the car wouldn't have any of it spluttering like mad like it wanted to die. Dors that mean the MAF is ok then do you think??

I had a similair problem with mine, i dowloaded a diag program and it told me no 3 coil pack was faulty, swapped it and the fault went a away. With out a diagnostic you wont know properly and it will be a hit and miss as there is unlikely to be any visible signs on the coil packs.
