Idea Do I need a CAT on a diesel??

I've been looking around on the net and stuff and it would seem that diesel engines are not governed by the same rules as petrols with regards to CATs. It seem that a diesel engine is not required by law to have a CAT, Just to pass its emissions test? Is this def true as if it is I'm binning the system for a better flowing custom Turbo back system.

I think that you are correct. They only do a "visible" smoke test. A mapped/tuned JTD with a straight through, un silnced exhaust will still pass a UK MOT.... It is on later models that have the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) on that you may have issues, but I think that is only down to getting the ECU played with to delete the DPF off to stop error message on the OBD?...

I really, really want a straight through on mine as they sound really nice, not at all loud, but you can really hear the turbo and it get the gasses flowing better!!!

HTH

Are you sure we have DPF? Mines a 2003 facelift 1.9 mjet . And does that have a link to the ECU or is it like the CAT in the fact that its purely filters cra$ out. Its not the diesel equivelent to a lamda sensor is it!Well I'm going to go enquire about some prices!

Will do. Only mine won't sound quite as nice as its only the 4 pot. However I have got a V6 and a twinny for when I really want a nice sound!

That sounds really nice for a 4 pot... Love the twin exit design... don't think it would suit a 156 as much?

Who did the exhaust? I know you say custom but was a mainstream custom manufacturer like powerflow etc or some one in your area which is too far to drive too? Sounds nice

Well... For a system from just after the turbo, all the way through (NO silencers at all) to any tip I choose, but think a single 4-5" rolled oval will suit the car... stainless steel with lifetime guarantee... 220!....

If I did not have to re-boot the front of the car and tax it this month, then I would be getting that done!!! Will get it booked in soon, so will get a video & piccies of her up on here before and after!... am well chuffed at that price, but it from a place that I used to use A LOT in the past!!
