Looking to relocate V6 oil filter - anyone done it?

As everyone knows the oil filter in the V6 is in a difficult location to make changing it easy. It almost puts me off doing it.

I'm now seriously considering relocating the filter. I haven't spent any time yet considering where it can go, but I'll be looking in the next few weeks. One location I think there is some space is at the offside in front of the wheel arch liner.

I'm thinking that if I put it in there it will be reasonably well protected from stones/road debris and spray. My last twin spark 156 had no underbody cover, and I remember once doing an oil change and the filter had almost rusted through and that was just a standard 12 months. My only concern is running the hoses from the existing filter location down to the new location and making sure they are clear from the exhaust and belts.

Has anyone else done this and have you got photos? What hose spec did you use, externally braided or standard rubber hose?

I would just use a standard Mocal take off plate, and although I could add a further cooler, I don't think my car needs it, I rarely drive it hard and it hasn't seen any track days (yet).

Thanks
Alan

Isn't it because the oil cooler pipes get in the way on a GTA. Not sure whether this affects all 156s.

It's been done, Pascs did it to his 156 v6. Relocated it to the front of the engine bay and added a cooler and temp/pressure gauges.

There's a thread somewhere with pics.

wow famous at last

I've since taken it all out and its back to the standard setup.

On the GTA it may be even more difficult as you already have the oil cooler in place. If you are just doing to make changing the filter easier then I wouldnt bother, its a real PITA to get a remote filter in place and sorted out nicely.

This was my setup
