Help needed please!!

Does anyone have Alfa diagnostics software compatible with a PH1 2.0 TS based in Devon/Cornwall? Beer tokens at the ready!

Cheers

Phil

I don't think AD supports that ECU - didn't when I needed it to anyway!

I used KWP71, which is a freebie. It is/was very basic though, only giving a numeric fault code.

To get it, I think you need to sign up (free) to the UniDiag Yahoo group.

Overall the car feels sluggish. The fuel injector light is on. The performance doesn't really pick up until right high up in the rev range. Excessive fuel consumption. Poor throttle response (at idle). It stinks of fuel outside. Sometimes the car is difficult to start and it won't idle but I think that is related to another issue. Occasional backfire but that has only happened a handful of times. The injector light also doesn't come on straight away it's usually after about 10 secs of starting the car.

Just to mention, there was a hole in the downpipe before the CAT which would have obviously affected the emissions. That has been welded up now but I was still having these issues before the hole on the downpipe occurred.

try disconnecting the MAF sensor and take it for a spin the injector light will still be on but there should be and improvment if not you may have a leak in the induction pipes or a faulty lambda...

Right, I disconnected the MAF and started the car. It ran worse and spluttery. I also cleaned the MAF out with contact cleaner and replaced the air filter. No noticable change after. I then reset the ECU for an hour and connected it back up. The injector light is still on, so I think that concludes that my lambda probe is shot.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a geniune lambda? I'm going to do a 400 mile round trip next weekend and I don't fancy paying twice the price just for fuel!

rgwm will sell you a used one for not very much. Trying to think if they're the same as a 156's... Not sure.

Thanks for all the help guys. Well today I managed to connect it up to Unidiag KWP71 and here are the results:

Read diagnostic faultcodes :
Bytes received: 08 71 17 1A 0A
DTC: 0x08 = 8
state : 3
type : 0x11 unknown
condition1 : 0x17
condition2 : 0x1A
counter : 0x0A

Does anyone know what fault this is? Looking at the Lambda sensor voltage it didn't really change value at all. It stayed around 500 mV could this actually conclude that the Lambda is dying? I don't really want to have to spend over £50 on Alfadiag just to read one fault.

was the car at idle and was the lambda rising and falling or fixed at 500mV's? At idle your looking for about 100-200mV full throttle is about 900mVs

Yep, the car was at idle with the lambda sticking at 500mV's. Revving the engine made no difference to the readings. I think the lowest I saw it drop was about 480mV's so I have ordered a new lambda probe from Lambda Sensors - Oxygen Sensors O2 Exhaust Probes >Bosch & NGK< Buy Online The car absolutely stinks of fuel at idle so I am pretty positive it's the lambda probe at fault.

Yes, your lambda is shot. Make sure you get a genuine one, I've had bad experiences (not least having to make my own connector) with pattern parts.

Avoid NGK, Bosch only you can use the generic bosch lambda but the genuine ones has a ready to go plug and play.
