Hmmm Preventive maintainance for the EGR valve?

Hi all,
I am a firm believer in prevention is the best cure to keep cars in top condition.
IE, regular servicing. changing stuff when they look like they may break, before they break.
That kind of stuff.
Now this is my first devils fuel run motor, and as it well documented one of the weak spots on these is the EGR valve.
So my question is, is there anything that can be done with these to keep them running well,
Like is there a fuel/oil additive or similar that can be used to keep it cleaner.
Cheers.

There was a post about this the other day showing the way to do a GM version on a Vauxhall with piccies, which may be worth a search? Drill small hole, gently punch out plunger and spring, and then clean the lot up free of carbon, iirc?:

Get it turned off in the software. It won't get clogged up any more after that. As for keeping the intake clean, EcoTek Powerboost worked really well on my old JTD, the intake was full of gunky black stuff (oil & soot mixed together), I scraped out as much as I could with a screwdriver and a rag and then used the Powerboost, which got rid of nearly all remaining visible deposits. Drove much better after that, I used to give it a dose at every oil change (7k).
