engine rev

hi. did you get to find out what the problem is?
I seem to have the same problem as well. I suspect it's a MAF sensor or Lambda problem.
thanks

It could be an air leak after the throttle body. Or it could be the throttle ... you have a fly-by-wire on the Spider I think (JTS will have), and this is faulty or has maybe got out-of-sync.

On the 156 TS engine there is a simple plunger valve in the breather pipe between the cam-cover and the inlet manifold. This is the one BEHIND the throttle body that you can always see. It can get gunked up and stick open and that would let air in from the engine crankcase. You might be able to remove it and clean it, but the likely hood is the clip will break and you'll need a new one. Not sure whether this is the same on the newer engines ... mine to check eper again!

cheers, Gary

Just checked eper and it looks like you do have the valve on the later Spiders ... Alfa part no 71713715 ...

Have a look on my website (link in signature) and look at the "Idle Saga!" page ... that lists my "trials and tribulations" with idling and my solutions ...

hi spider 82,

I solved the problem with an idle reset. its been ok since though I've noticed some occassional fluctuation. All seemed fine on diag except temp sensor in MAF was reading a little high. but the guy who reset it explained it as possible drift in the self learnt settings. AFM and lambda were reading ok. I will be investing in alfadiag soon!
