Matching head/piston damage on 2.0TS

Hi,

There's a fair bit of impact damage to #1 piston and head on a 2.0TS I'm looking at. Seems that 'something' has been mashed up in there at some point.

Similar evidence on #3 as well, but nowhere near as bad... My first thought was previous ring failure, but the bores look a-ok.

Any suggestions...does the damage need repaired, or will it be OK?

That's had a stone or something in it, a skim is needed, but it might be too deep.

Wouldn't a bit of broken off spark plug cause damage like that?

I have also seen similar damage on a motorcycle head caused by pre-ignition.
