Is this standard cam iming for a 24v V6?

With reference to my thread posted a couple of days ago https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/engin...ng-how-to.html

The reason I asked about non-standard timing is because I have a set of Piper regrind cams. They are a hybrid regrind and not the standard uprated cam they offer on their website.

The data they sent me listed the 'timing data' as:

Inlet open @ 21 close @ 59
Exhaust open @ 59 close @ 21

Piper told my engine builder to time them to standard timing using the cam locking blocks. I pointed out the timing specs and asked him to check with them again. They have, once again said that the cams should be timed as standard.

However I was pretty much convinced that the timing specs they give for my cams are not standard Alfa cam timings. But I've just been told that the figures above are not 'timing' figures but are in fact 'opening and closing periods' and they should be timed using the blocks as this is a completely different thing.

Could anyone clever than me (and that's probably a lot of people) please explain this please!

Thanks very much.

I have trouble imagining the cam blocks would fit your piper regrinds... unless they only reduced the base circle to increase the lift.

Here you have the original timing: camshaft details | CAT CAMS performance camshafts.

The duration in your cams is longer (260 instead of 247) and the valve lift is higher, the lobe centre angle is the same (109).
