Engine Swap 1.6 to 1.9jtd

I am looking for advice on changing a 1.6 engine to a 1.9jtd engine. Has anyone done this, and would you recommend it? There is nothing rong with the car itself, just need to be more fuel efficient, Can't afford to swap cars. Would be interested in comments.
Many thanks

Paul

Re: Engine Swap 1.6 to 1.9jtd

you need:

1. ECU

2. Engine

3. Gearbox

4. Gear stick

5. New electric installation

6. A lot of other small electric boxes and things

7. Will cost a lot to do it, and the end result is unsure.

Better to sell your car and get a JTD one.

ps: other possibility is to find a crashed JTD and get whatever you need from it...You need the whole front of the car...so look for rear end collusion.

One things for sure. Trying it will cost thousands more than sticking with the petrol. Just save up and trade as and when you can. In the meantime, use a lighter right foot. A 1.6 isn't that bad unless there is something amiss.

It's madness to be frank. If it's a 120 bhp and you want more power, Red Dot can add 14 bhp easily enough for a few quid. Car will be un-saleable and difficult to insure if you go for the lump swap.

Don't mess about, tell him like it is

I agree, though.....if you can't afford to change the car you can't afford to do this......add an exhaust to the list of bits above, as well.

Much cheaper / easier to sell the 1.6, buy a JTD.....

Sorry to rain on your parade....

Cars with any engine other than the original will be a nightmare to insure! and you may well need an engineers report.
Without wishing to be harsh about it if you need to ask what is involved you probably don't have the experiance to carry out such a swap. It will be much cheaper to sell your car and buy a diesel one, or just drive a little more economically.

Re: Engine Swap 1.6 to 1.9jtd

It'll cost more to do than the cars worth if you can't do it yourself. And by asking the question I'm assuming you can't do it yourself, there aren't a whole lot of people that can

There's a guy on here thats put a 2.4 JTD into a 2.0 T.Spark GTV though, so it can be done. To make his Twin Spark GTV into 2.4 JTD he broke a complete 156 2.4 JTD and a 3.0 V6 GTV.. Very big job.

Absolutely.
At least 99% of the time it will cost less to simply sell the car you have and buy the other car.

The only time there is any point doing it is when the engine you want/need to use isn't available in the car you want/need.
