Re: Boxer 1.7 engine rocking

not had this problem on a boxer, but it sounds like it could be weak sparks or fuel starvation, have you checked fuel delivery and if you are getting good sparks at the plugs?

Re: Boxer 1.7 engine rocking

Take the spark plugs out and check them too.
Make a note of which cylinder each plug comes from.
If one looks very different to the others then that is probably the problem cylinder.

Sounds like your engine running on 3 cylinders.
Check the plugs and fueling.
Hows the coolant level? I once had the engine running on 3 cylinders when the pistons seized due to a burnt head gasket.

Re: Boxer 1.7 engine rocking

Sounds awfully reminiscent of what milady's 33 sounded like when one cambelt went.....it still ran but she said the brakes didn't work too well......probably because the bank of cylinders that provided vacuum to the servo didn't have a cambelt on it anymore......

Hope I'm wrong

Hi All,
Thks for your feedback. The mechanic diagnosed it of snap timing belt, running on two cylinders only.

Re: Boxer 1.7 engine rocking

My was lucky this time (10 v/v previously total destruction)cos' not a piece of valve bent or broken. Alfa mechanic only recommended to replaced the 8 hydraulic tappet, that he found a few faulty(as claims). I believed he is honest, as he does not add in the phantom parts(valve)in garage bill. Belts, tappet, follower pulley, coolant, oil seal, gasket kits and syn. lub. All cost me USD900. Don't wait until 60,000 km. to have the timing belt change. My only 30,+++km.
