156 JTD: engine warning light possible causes?

I guess there's no end of possibilities but noticed the engine warnign light coming on intermitently on way home & wondered what the possibilities were.

Going to get it booked in & looked at + serviced but can't hurt to ask.....

Re: 156 JTD: engine warning light possible causes?

On my 2.4 JTD I got this light flashing sometimes - everyone reckoned that it was the turbo vanes jamming and that I'd need a new turbo.....however a bit of the standard Italian tune-up seemed to blow out the cobwebs and the problem went away......

Good luck!

It is losing power too? Like Pud's possibly thinking, a split boost pipe will throw the warning light on, and the car will run in safe mode (no power, won't pass 60mph). But if it's intermittant... hmmm....

Yeah I was thinking split boost pipe.. Does the light come on when you pass a certain RPM, or when you floor it? It could have a bad remap on it, if the boost peaks too high it'll throw the light on, but should cut the boost, and you'd notice that..

Re: 156 JTD: engine warning light possible causes?

nothing noticably consistent when i saw it, at first i thought it was flashing then it went off then on with seemingly no link to revs, speed or otherwise......Inconsistent is best way to describe it, we'll see what tomorrow brings.....

Re: 156 JTD: engine warning light possible causes?

Seems to be cause the MAF was disconnected & buggered when it was connected so got to go back to get that replaced & a few other bits & bobs which soon mounts up......

Hi dont wish to hi jack this engine light issue... but my 156 JTD 2005 Sportswagon has started to go into safe mode and engine light comes on when I push the car in 4th or 5th gear? If I stop and restart the car the power returns but the light remains on ntil the car has bee driven and restarte a few times thewn it goes out.....only for the problem to return a few days later,,,, any ideas greatfully listened to!!

Its probably either overboosting, or erroneously detecting overboost.. But you need to get the codes read first and foremost.

I cleaned out my EGR valve when i got this problem, seemed to do it for me,.... BUT.....
( my clutch was heavy and slipping in 6th ) is yours? a new one fitted brought back the smile.
I only ask above question, as giving it the beans with a knackered clutch will cause over reving/ turbo overboost = MSCF and limp mode.
