ALFA 147 engine will not start.

Hi,
I have a 2002 Alfa 147 selespeed,I was driving it last night and parked it overnight at work.
When I went to start the engine the next morning, noticed that it displays in Reverse and when trying to change to Neutral by stepping on the brake it will not let me change, and now the engine will not start. No warning light appears only the engine light when turning the key from Mar to start.
Please help I do not know what is causing this, the battery seems fully charged registering 12Volts and over when tested, what can cause this issue.

Re: ALFA 147 engine will not start.

If you can't select neutral, the ECU will never allow the engine to turn over.

Does the Selespeed pump run as it should?
Is the Selespeed fluid level ok?

Re battery voltage, 12v is actually flat!
What is the EXACT voltage?
It should be at least 12.5v

Yes the selespeed pump runs, you can hear it when attempting to change gears.
Regarding voltage it was tested arount 12.4 um you can turn the light on and radio, could it still be a flat battery when you can do this.
I recall jumping in the car and having the headlight switch turned to on even though it was physically on can the battery still get flat from this?

Re: ALFA 147 engine will not start.

The selespeed fluid is around max,so no problem there.
Could it be something simple, the battery was tested around 12.45 to be precise, and the light can be turned on very strong no warning of a flat battery either, any ideas as to the cause would be appreciated.

Re: ALFA 147 engine will not start.

Start checking fuses & relays and the connections to the Selespeed actuator & Selespeed ECU.

Is this the fuse box on top of the battery???
Is there a diagram of this?

Re: ALFA 147 engine will not start.

The Selespeed actuator is the big expensive lump bolted to the top of the gearbox (under the battery).

The Selespeed ECU is at the front of the passenger footwell.

Re: ALFA 147 engine will not start.

So from the info I have given you so far,do you confirm that the battery is not the problem here.
If it is a problem with the connection is it a matter of just simply a loose connection?

Re: ALFA 147 engine will not start.

Follow Davids comprehensive directions. Lots of connections/plugs under the battery/ carrier, and so on, that may benefit from checking/cleaning? Good Luck.:

It could be one of so many things, so you need to check everything!

The battery may well be fine.

I am suspicious of most things in life, none more so on a vehicle than the battery!:
