Cam belt costs

Can anyone tell me the approx cost for the cam belt for a 2l TS GTV (99). I am looking for a relatively cheap one (if there is such a thing) but not one that is going to compromise my engine. Also, are they easy to fit. I use a mechanic down the road who seems reasonably competent.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Re: Cam belt costs

You'll need to replace the cam belt, balance belt, auxiliary belt and their associated tensioners so expect to pay in the region of £350-400.

Re: Cam belt costs

See:-
Alfa Workshop. Alternative Autos, Shop4Parts and deals on eBay.
You will need:-
Cam belt, balance belt, auxillary belt and all tensioners. Include cam cover gasket. Variator and water pump too if you going to have a 'proper job' done. Depending on mileage spark plugs will need replacing. Once done you'll be lighter in the pocket but much more confident that nothing should go wrong. There are very many threads on this; do a search.
Does your mechanic down the road have the cam locks, tension adjusting tools and dial gauge (for TDC)?

Re: Cam belt costs

If you can get to Aylesbury, contact A for Alfa. Paul did the lost (all belts, tensioners and a new variator) for 300. First class job. He can et to you, but it costs a bit more.

Re: Cam belt costs

Alternative Autos call them on 01484 865086 they are mail order and have andeal on at the moment cambelt kit including cam belt, balance belt, Aux belt, and all the tensioners for £125.95. The job is'nt too bad but as others have said buy the cam locking tools follow the threads on here for changing the cambelt and take a deep breath. I have done two cambelt changes now. OH nearly forgot best to change the water pump as it is easy to do when the belts are off and it only costs about £25.00. When you put new tighter belts on it sometimes causes the waterpump to give up the ghost.

Good luck
