Anybody changed their exhaust on a V6?

Hullo,

In need of changing the exhaust on the GT. I am thinking of scorpion or wizard. Would love to hear one before I buy (particularly the scorpion) so if anybody would be so kind I would be very grateful! I can come and meet you wherever and buy you a drink for your troubles

I'd rather have a supersprint than a scorpion if that was the only two choices. Supersprint is twice the price though. Wizard sounded wicked on my GT 3.2, if I'd bought that car before my daughter was born I reckon I'd have had it a good few years, such a good all-rounder. Not many Alfa coupes you can get a bookcase in the boot and sound so good while doing it

Mine's only a poor 1.8 TS (ideal for Isle of Man roads & short journeys) but Dan persuaded me to take his Wizard cat back. Haven't regretted it one bit. Almost sounds like an V6!! And build quality fantastic.

So mine is a GTA and not a GT, but V6 all the same with those few extra cc's. And I love my Wizard

It's the most guttural, raspy, wonderful exhaust noise I think I've ever heard from a V6. Civilised with a promise of menace at idle or driven 'sensibly', but blip the throttle and she barks like a demented Italian lion on heat. Assuming there are demented lions on heat in Italy

Cabin noise is minimal, no resonance, no droning intrusion on long motorway runs. Unless of course you open the window, floor it and just want to hear her sing.

Yes, I know I'm biased, but in my honest opinion it's one of the best aural improvements I think you can ever make to a car. And you know you'll be one of a very small custom made club too

Link to a YouTube vid of her idling and being taken through the rev range is in my signature below. Enjoy.

Extra few cc? Aren't both the GT and GTA the same 3.2 (3179) litre engine? It does sound nice but each video recording sounds different to the next so I need to see one in person! Much research must be done!

Hey Dan, just out of interest, do you do any exchange for used systems, ie, ones that aren't new but aren't rusty?

I've not really got any need for used original systems, I would say a good one is worth hanging onto unless you don't have the storage space. You'll probably find that when you take it off you get a bit of rattling from inside the box, the GT backboxes usually do.

buy the book on hotrodding v6 motors isbn#978-1-845840-21-1 available from amazon amongst other places

or you can save yourself a load of money on both the book and pipes if you are after performance

the header and intake manifolds are too small and until these are opened up you won't gain much in the way of power by changing the tail pipe

however if ifs its noise you want then changing pipes is the way to go

at the Nottingham beer festival and yes you can buy me a drink for this advice

I have the scorpion with silenced centre section from scorpion on my 147 GTA.
Like it very much.
Deep, throaty and not too boomy. (Please note the comma in that sentence. )

I prefer it's sound to the wizard which is just too loud and lary for me.

The Scorpion exhaust for the V& GT was actually modelled on the V6GT of our own EMAO Regional rep, GT Lewi.
He was also quite impressed with the scorpion.

For the money you pay, the quality is okay, and the sound is something you can live with.
(You will not get folks staring at you calling you all kinds of things under their breath at you roar off at deafening speed)

If you wanna hear the scorpion on my GTA, I am home between xmas and NY, let me know, we can arrange something. Although, you'd have to come to me as GTA is SORN right now.
