Not Happy Probably The Worst Dealer in The World

I have only owned my GTV since October and had the misfortune to have to go to my local dealer (Sturgess in Leicester). As I entered the parts counter two guys looked at me for about a minute while continuing their personal conversation. When they finally decided that they would serve me I was expecting a greeting like "good afternoon sir, what can I help you with", or some such demonstration of an expected level of customer care; what I got was "yes pal" ........... So it didn't start well, and went down hill. He barely knew how to use the eper database and couldn't read a drawing, I had to show him the part I needed. He ordered the part on Monday, and despite their claim on the web site that "if we don't have your part in stock we can get it within 24 hours" told me it would be in on Wednesday. I was expecting a call Wednesday to tell me the part was in, no call came so I called them "I told you I'd call you when it came in" ....... "NO, you told me it would be in Wednesday, and you would call me" ...... "it will be in tomorrow". This same conversation was repeated with a different person on Thursday, because again the part did not arrive, not one word of apology from any representative of Sturgess, just indignation that I was actually calling them!

Anyway, when the part finally did arrive ..................... it was wrong!! He had been looking at the parts list for a LHD car! They then told me that the part I needed "was out of production and no longer available"; I asked on here to see if I could get one and was told that the part was still available; so I contacted AlfaWorkshop who ordered it for me.

So a big should out for Sturgess of Leicester .......... Probably the worst Alfa dealer in the world!!

Sorry you had a crop service but let me tell you there is stiff competition for that award! And sadly lots of it.

Thanks for the sympathy. A lesson well learned. Now I know about the eper database I will go straight to one of the excellent indies who use this site.

Unfortunately it is not limited to Alfa dealers, I had similarly appalling service with my S-Max.

I had a similarly poor experience with this dealer; having looked at their website and saw that parts are open unil 6pm weekdays I arrived just before 5.30 to find they were closed. A receptionist took my details for Parts to call me and I never got a call. My experience so far has been that good independent AR garages are best and take pride in their service levels...

Gary,

I use Dave at Intaservices in Leicester. I cannot fault him or his team, prices are good, and he uses all original parts. I'd always go to him before a Alfa dealer.

Gary, I'd say that was pretty mild for a main dealer ...

Of course, these cars have been out of production for a while so likely that whoever you speak to does not have any experience of them. As such, indie specialists are usually way ahead of them these days.

Only main dealer I've used is Beechwood in Derby and I couldn't fault them. Even dropped me off at work whilst they fixed the car, top stuff!

I take your claim, and give you
Donald's Peterborough Alfa dealer.

Needed a new gear knob for my GTA. Found on the computer, price checked, call a few days later, erm, that's the wrong one for your car, its actually this one, double the price.gets the parts in, instead of a 6 speed, leather, lift up reverse, it's a plastic 5 speed, non lift up. Poor parts finding and ePer read for a dealer, but they called me.
At least there was no fuss about the stuff up.

And to level the field I add:

Autolusso, arrived to get a set of silicon coolant pipes, wandered in, two chaps chatting about how very drunk they had been the previous night and how they couldn't really be arsed today, diligently avoided eye contact with me. Maybe minute and a half. They then chatted about when their break was going to be and how knackered and hung over they were, then I was greeted with

"Alright mate, what do you need?"

Hey Ho!

Thanks for cheering me up guys, was starting to get paranoid that dealers had a picture of me somewhere

Manners and good customer service cost nothing, they have now lost me as a customer through lack of both.

Thanks Andy, I'm sure I will have call to use them when I find something that I can't fix; but I like getting the black stuff under my nails. It's that final satisfying beer when all the cursing is done and your pride & joy barks back into life; nothing sweeter.

See you Saturday btw.

It's always been like this, the dealers are generally dreadful, ARUK are completely hopeless, there may be the odd dealer providing some kind of service but overall it's all a nightmare.

You've gotta laugh otherwise you may go mad.

I once (and only once) braved the dealer for a part and drove to the dealer in the 916 Spider to get it. The service manager was on the forecourt and we got chatting. He said about the Spider " that's a nice Alfa, what is it?"

He then drove off in the company Citroen

You can tell the dealers don't retain the older Alfas for servicing..........

OK sleight apology to Sturgess, they were correct; Alfaworkshop have sent my payment back as the part is NOT available.

Still doesn't excuse the lack of basic customer service though!

Wow, surprised at this. I've had 2 Alfas from Sturgess now and they've been brilliant. Quite a few positive reviews on here too. Sorry to here this.
