trackdays?

Any trackdays planned over the next few months?

I've done several on the bike, and quite fancy giving it a shot in the 147 now.

Late?

I still ride my bike all through the winter... a trackday in the car would be positive luxury :P

Re: trackdays?

There will be a lot of track days on at Snetterton and Brands. I dont think the boys on here will get together now until the Summer.

If you do go to one let me know and I'll come down and take some pics

Re: trackdays?

Talking to my mate today who does a lot of bike trackdays! Snetterton, Rockingham,Brands etc!

He tells me that on the car trackdays, it is more like a procession!
No overtaking allowed around bends (under braking), only on the straights,
Is ths true? If so, what's the point?

Re: trackdays?

Hmm... if that indeed IS the case, then perhaps I'm less interested. At Cadwell, I love mixing it up in the fast group on my 400, and while treat it more like a practice than a race, I DO like pressing on, and enjoy outbraking, and outcornering slower riders (especially if they're on a bigger bike ) (lapping at around 2:00 atm)

I can't imagine anything worse than having to give up on overtaking oppertunities just because a corner is approaching.

Re: trackdays?

It's a track day not a race. Out braking/overtaking on corners could get you black flagged. On straights courtesy is that the slower cars move to the left to let faster traffic through. I am not sure why it is different with bikes but most cars on TDs do not have the safety features (e.g. protected fuel lines, engine cut off, auto fire suppressent) to be raced safely, hence the rules.

TDs are still a lot of fun even without the competive element. They are also a lot less of a procession then F1 which is meant to be the pinnacle of car racing (and they're not allowed to overtake on corners as well if this season is anything to go by)

If you want to race, get yourself in a race series. Youl will need to have a car that conforms to the series rules though.

Re: trackdays?

The problem is that many cars there are fast down the straights but slow right down for the corners. Corners are what taking a car on the track are about! Anyone can drive fast in a straight line!
Race series are expensive too go in for.
Bike trackdays are the same rules really but are not too strictly upheld.Technically you should not even time yourself as it is classed as competing and is not covered by the circuit's insurance.
I am glad you enjoy your trackdays, and can see the reason you do! But, I get frustrated following slow people on a road and would no doubt get caught behind someone with a big fast car who cant drive it, so it's probably not for me!

Re: trackdays?

Think of it more like qualifying... get yourself some clear track and try going as quick as you can

Apart from the start of the session it does get quite spaced out so shouldn't be too hard to give yourself a good run.. most people will let you pass on the straights if you are clearly quicker.

To be honest, having some porker undertake you on the corner when your concentrating on trying to get the best line round is pretty annoying so I'm quite glad that they have the rules
