Vauxhall Calibra V6

Yes it's a Vauxhall and that is a dirty word to some. Yes it was only a Cavalier in a fancy suit but my god it looked good and still does today

Dare I ask if this can be cool?

There is a gulf between the 2.0 and the V6

Just about.

With an Opel badge it is definately.

A rose by any othet name would smell so sweet?
Not if it was called a Vauxhall it wouldn't.

I loved the looks when it came out and I think it still looks great now. In classic terms, it's time will come in V6 form. At the moment it's still a wee bit chavvy to be cool.

I drove a 2.0 one to Ipswich and back in a day once. Avis brought it because they'd run out of Chavaliers. I sat in it and thought **** me they've brought me a Chavalier after all.

More cool than the average Vauxhall doesn't make it cool. Not by a long way.

Here in South Africa it's called an Opel and that edges it into "cool".

Nothing Italian

It's interesting and I like them but I don't think it is cool. Yet. Maybe another 10 years.

I think it has the hallmarks of greatness if not too fannied about with and in a nice, subtle colour.

COOL

I can honestly say, I never once looked at them and thought "Cor! I wish I owned a Cavalier coupe!"

I'm amazed that I am in the substantial minority with this not especially glorious, warmed over repmobile.

I'd definitely not call it a "classic" or describe it as having "hallmarks of greatness".

Those two things are totally different from a car being "cool" or not.

As I mentioned before, in South Africa it was badged as an Opel, which does not carry with it the Cavalier-nonsense baggage. Because of its interesting styling and V6 engine and rarity (at least in South Africa) it is cool.

Not a classic or "great", but cool.

It was certainly fairly cool when it came out, even though it drove the same as the Cavalier.

Then as they got older many were chavved up which sort of ruined the image.

So uncool at the moment, but they might become cool when they are classed as classics and the chavved ones are forgotten.

I much preferred the Honda prelude of the day in terms of image. (Not the pop up lights versions)

See, those first two are cool. The V-grill and badge on the 3rd makes it less so.

Always looked to me like it nearly looked more normal if they hadn't got the projector lamps and it'd had ones off a Cavalier.

My dad actually put the V grille on his one.

Dunno why you would want to advertise the fact that you were driving a Vauxhall, but there you go...

Office Chair.

I liked it a lot in it's day. The shape alone regardless of motor. It came in wanky 2.0 8V, 16V and the V6.
I remember my section leader had one from new telling me he went to here and there and it only took him a fraction of the time in "The Calibra". What a dick. I don't even think it was the 16V.
That alone makes them uncool. If you see them on the road today they're quite often chavved up a bit :/

voted cool. Unmolested, it's a very neat piece of design even today, not least for the 80s.

The train :(

Where is the "burn it" option?

The only V**xh*ll that might get close to being cool is the XV220, which is actually a Lotus in disguise.
