Rover 800 Vitesse

Highly successful, stylish and attractive product of a union between Austin Rover and Honda.

Who doesn't want one of these beauties now?

I had a 623is and 820e.

The 623is was by far the better car. Don't remember maestro switchgear in the 820

My dad had an 827. Although it was probably the best car he ever owned, any car my dad drove has to be uncool.

The only cool recent Rover was the 220 coupe.

Period.

Styling is very much of its time and it looks quite dated now, but the hatch had shades of sd1 about it and was a good looking car.

A long time ago we considered buying one. An acquantance at work had an immaculate BRG one so I asked him if it was any good. "No" he replied "It's ****. The only reason I've still got it is because I can't sell the *******"

You can file it with all the other BL/Austin Rover cars that were excellent right up to the point where they left the drawing board and became cars.

Uncool.

Office Chair.

I was on the Rover car scheme a few moons ago. I had a plethora of 400's and a 600. A 618 to be precise, it was that car that had me eventually buy the Honda Accord of the almost same design. The Rover looked better though I think.

I never had an 800 (did not work at the company for long enough) but did fancy one. Not sure about whether it is cool or not though.

By Gerry McGovern under Roy Axe , fresh from doing the fabulous K cars at Chrysler. The took the SD1 and added some more features down the side of a Honda. The Honda was a Legend.

I used to have an early 827 Vitesse with manual gearbox (Relatively rare I am told)

Also had a later 820 Turbo Vitesse

Both were very unreliable (gearbox, suspension and electrics mostly)

They are reasonably swift in a straight line but don't handle all that well.

They are not cool, just another very average old barge.
